CITY SESSIONS

A Series of Performance Cabarets to Celebrate the History of New York City

Artwork of pushpins in a older subway map to marks the spots for Dixon Place between the 2nd Ave and Grand Street, and the W4 St subway stops with the words CITY SESSIONS in the lower lefthand corner and a Peculiar Works Project logo superimposed over the upper righthand corner of the image.

In 2013, PWP led audiences on an epic adventure through New York City history over two floors of the James A. Farley post office in midtown Manhattan. Beginning in 2026 and continuing through 2027, we're collaborating with artists from a variety of disciplines—music, dance, theater, puppetry, visual art—to create a new promenade celebrating the city that we all call home.

Each quarter, we'll be presenting a new evening of short works in theme-based cabarets at different locations around the five boroughs. The City Sessions cabarets will take audiences on a 90-minute journey through the high and low points of the City: the activists who shaped its evolving landscape, the riots that reshaped it, the ordinary workers who built it, and the powerful elites who both supported and exploited them. And for the adventurous spectator, there’ll be opportunities for YOU to participate with trivia contests and ways you can add YOUR story to our NYC narrative!

NEXT UP: "I'm in NY but NY Ain't In Me"
A series of short works that explore the experiences of people who spend their days in New York but live elsewhere: The Commuters.
